Today we at the GM Migrant Destitution Fund have launched a new campaign - #EndDestitution: Dignity for all Greater Manchester Residents.
Across Greater Manchester, members of our communities are being forced into destitution by their immigration status. At a time of unprecedented hostility around migration, with the government threatening to make the Hostile Environment even more hostile, it is more important than ever to stand in solidarity, saying:
-
- It doesn't have to be like this: enforced destitution is not natural, nor inevitable.
- No matter where we come from, we all have the right to live with dignity as members of our society.
That's why we're calling on the government to drop their plans to create an even more Hostile Environment, and to stop using destitution as a weapon of immigration control, so that everyone in our society can live with dignity, no matter where they come from.
"We are human like you: hear us!"
With all the grim news, it's easy to feel powerless right now.
But there is plenty you can do to show solidarity to those in our communities facing destitution and advocate for change - visit our campaign page for positive actions you can take:
